Developed by Willams and published QUByte Interactive with Game Nacional, Him and Her Collection compiles three Him and Her games previously released on the Nintendo Switch into one concise package (Him and Her, Her Challenges and Him and Her 3).
Him and Her collection is a puzzle platformer game where the player traverses’ levels looking to reconnect with their significant other. The main mechanic is utilising the levels gravity to progress, when you get to the corner of a piece of land you rotate the level as you change your direction. To reach your goal you will need to avoid spikes, jump gaps and hit levers. If you fall or hit an obstacle it’s an insta death, but fear not you simply reload and retry the puzzle.
As you progress through the game you will be slowly introduced to brand new elements you will need to utilise. These include teleporters, jumping pads, moving platforms, enemies and more. These additions are added bit by bit and whilst the gameplay is the same across all three games in the collection, there are a few unique mechanics found in each that add some much needed variety.
The game has a very simple art style but it works really well. The dark shadowed feel of the environments mixed with the simple hand drawn look to the characters give it a very melancholy feel and combine that with its slow, simplistic guitar melody soundtrack really set the scene of loneliness and looking for your lost companion.
The collection features over 100 different levels for you to play through with both normal and hard difficulty options spread across the three games, so there is plenty of content to keep you busy. And for all the achievement hunters out there you can get the 1000g in a few hours by playing through the three games on both difficulty modes.
There are a few slight issues with the game, however. There doesn’t seem to be much variation in difficulty between the two modes so I’m unsure what classes as “hard”. The main issue the game has is that the controls don’t always work as you intend, and you end up flipping the world by accident or falling to your death when making a jump more times than you would like.
Whilst the game does feature some iffy control issues at times, it still a very redeeming puzzle game that will test you in a variety of ways despite its simplistic looks. Add to the fact your basically getting 3 games for the equivalent of £1.10 each with loads of levels to play through, means your getting a fantastic deal.
Him and Her Collection was released on 23rd June 2022 and is playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S via backwards compatibility. The game can be purchased HERE for £3.29. The game is also available on PC and other consoles.
We were provided a copy of the game for this review. Big thanks for that!
